A puppy’s gestation period…

Did you know that the gestational period is divided into two important phases in dogs?

The first stage, known as the embryonic stage, occurs during the first 35 days of pregnancy and is when neural and organ development takes place.

The final phase of pregnancy, known as the fetal stage, is when the mother and the fetus gain weight. About 70% of puppy weight at birth is acquired by the fetus during this period. This stage is when the formation of articular cartilage and mineralization of fetal bones occurs.

During these phases, the mother and her puppies have specific nutritional needs, especially an adequate mineral balance in the mother dog’s diet. That’s why nutrition is so important for a puppy and its mother from the earliest stages of life.
