Initial interactions between resident dogs and new canines can be unpredictable. For this reason, such introductions should be approached with caution and planning. As with people, first impressions are important and can set the stage of a relationship between pets residing in the same household. There are a variety of possible scenarios that are dependent upon the age, species, temperament, pecking order status, etc. of the animals to be involved in the introduction.

We would love to be part of this process. Our male dushy would welcome a new playmate. However our female dushy does is quite aggressive towards other furbabies. We would need guidance.
Hi Karen
Thank you for your message.
Introductions are all different, but the article gives some ideas on how to do it. A vet suggested to another lady who adopted from us, who had a bit of aggression in the pack, was to take them all to a neutral park area and let them play and sniff around. That way they are doing a fun activity together but also have space. Its a gentle process of integration.
There is also an animal behaviourist at The Dachshund Haven that can offer advice if you need her number when you adopt another one.
Regards Debbie
